Event Details

Labyrinth is excited to invite you for a poetry reading by Robin Winckel-Mellish and Donald Gardner, coming Sunday 11 December 3:30 pm at Labyrinth Amsterdam.
Robin Winckel and Donald Gardner have performed before during several Labyrinth Poetry Nights and they are back with new and recently published poetry collections, that they will launch this afternoon.
South African-born Robin Winckel-Mellish lives in the Netherlands and has published three poetry collections: A Lioness at My Heels, Messages from the Bees and lastly An Obeisance to Frogs (Modjaji Books Cape Town. Robin set up the Poetry Critique Group Amsterdam and her poetry has been published in various South African and international journals.
Donald Gardner has been writing poetry and giving live performances since the mid-60s, when he lived in New York and read with Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso and other US poets of that generation. He has lived in The Netherlands since 1980 and works here as a literary
translator. His ‘New and Selected Poems (1966-2020)’ was published in 2021 and has been widely praised. Irish poet Desmond Egan writes of him in the Fortnightly Review: ‘Disenchanted (but never cynical); mordant; long-suffering; uncomplaining; an outsider. He belongs in a world of garbage rounds, missed trains, forgotten sandwiches, fierce-lit office blocks… I greatly admire Gardner’s mastery of precise, unexpected, everyday imagery… Such facility is a given in this collection and a reminder that he brings a poet’s eye
to our everyday, making us see what we had not noticed.’
Make your reservation now via www.labyrinthamsterdam.nl to be sure of a spot for coming Sunday! And bring some cash if you like to obtain one of the poetry collections of Robin and Donald.
Walk in at 3:30 pm as Labyrinth can not serve everybody at once, and to avoid too much distractions when the poetry reading starts around 4 pm.
Looking forward receiving you at Labyrinth!
