Until the lions have their own historians, the history of the hunt will always glorify the hunter.”
-Chinua Achebe.

Jazz. Poetry. These two are more than just means of entertainment, more than just methods of storytelling. They both act as historic objects that records our lives and memories. They are the archives of our souls, bodies, and minds. They help us navigate the chaos of life by leaning on that chaos, using it, and embracing. Over the countless centuries of human development, the lions have our historians; they are music, they are words, they are feelings, our hands and our feet, our hearts and our minds. Intangible, soulful, dreadfully exquisite, and incredibly beautiful. Jazz is inside of poetry, and poetry is inside of jazz, and both are inside of all of us.

Please join us as we explore this connection at Labyrinth cocktail, soul food, and poetry bar. The evening, hosted by the jazz/spoken word trio Vignette!, will be filled with words from poets Tirsa With, CK and Gus Reneiri, and cocktails from mixologist Sam Kingue Ebelle!
There will not be any entrance fee, but donations for the artists are very much appreciated.
About VIGNETTE:
Vignette! is a jazz/spoken word group consisting of guitarist Euan Richard, bassist Baesst, and vocalist Alexander. The three met on a warm summer evening in Amsterdam during #openmicmonday at Labyrinth cocktail, soul food, and poetry bar. After a spontaneous, live, and incredibly improvised jam session at the end of the open mic, the three decided to continue creating positive vibrations together. Pulling from neo-soul, jazz, blues, and hip hop influences, Vignette! seeks to envelope you in the beautiful chaos of life, love, and the occasional sandwich.

About LABYRINTH:
Labyrinth is initiated and hosted by Sam Kingue Ebelle. Born in Cameroon, having worked in some of the best bars worldwide, Sam is one of Amsterdam’s most gifted mixologists. This poet-turned-alchemist is responsible for cocktails that elevate the senses as well as the spirit. Inspired by the warmth of Mother Africa and the vibrancy of Afropolis. Together with partner Lincie Kusters
Labyrinth organises all kind of events, including Labyrinth Poetry Night ( every last saturday of the month)
and Open Mic Mondays ( every monday)
